Can I play roller hockey?

I%26#039;m 17 years old, a die hard hockey fan and have been playing street hockey (on sneakers) for a couple of years now and always have wanted to play for a team. I have an opportunity to play for a roller hockey league but I have never rollerbladed before, should I sign up to play if I never roller bladed before or should I forget about it, or should I get a pair of blades first and practice a couple of days?

I really want to play but I don%26#039;t know if my lack of experience on blades will get in the way..

Can I play roller hockey?
Thats a personal judgement call...
Reply:practice, practice, practice. I play roller hockey (and ice hockey) and it does take a while to get comfortable on skates. but if you want to, try it! you never know until you try!
Reply:you can do anyting you put your mind to.

jump on skates and start practicing. if you start at lower level leagues you will pick it up then move to higher class teams. all it takes is practice and you will do good.
Reply:I am not gonna say it will take you a year to make the transition but you have to be realistic. For starters, many roller hockey leagues use a puck and personally if playing league I play in full pads, just as I do on ice, whereas in sneaker hockey you have probably used a ball and therefore used minimal protection. Secondly you%26#039;re gonna be taller in skates so you%26#039;ll have to get used to a taller stick. Thirdly if you can%26#039;t skate how much fun are you going to have plus you will be a liability to the others. Lastly what took so effin long?
Reply:i don%26#039;t know can you? lol
Reply:i dont knw try it and find out yourself
Reply:I say practice for at least a year. Practice sudden stops and turns, and of course starting off fast. I don%26#039;t know how people who play roller hockey do it, it must take a lot of skill and practice.

All I can say is that I once played a game of roller hockey when I was about 10, and I thought, %26#039;oh, I%26#039;ve played hockey while skating on ice and on sneakers, this can%26#039;t be so hard.%26#039; Well, I went to stop, and natural instinct made me want to stop like on ice skates, to the side instead of using the break thing on the back of roller blades. And if I twist my elbow a bit and look really hard I can still see the scar from the good sized scab I got from my only attempt at roller hockey.

So practice, and learn to stop and turn quickly. It%26#039;ll probably take a while before you can play very well, but if you really want to, you can do it.
Reply:You can play roller hockey as long as you have been on roller blades.......however you will get killed if you never have before.

so be careful
Reply:I%26#039;m not trying to put you down, cause I started out playing deck(street) hockey also but I mean I would highly recomend practicing skating for AT LEAST a year. I%26#039;ve been play roller for about 3 years and I%26#039;m still not the best skater but I%26#039;ve improved a lot. The first year I played with my friends for a few months and broke my ankle, so don%26#039;t rush anything. Take tips from your friends and try to practice every day. It depends how well you do on the first day. If you REALLY want to play, get a friend to give some lessons and practice everyday. Start playing defense as there is not too much heavy skating involved, compared to playing foward and in time you%26#039;ll get used to it but please practice just about every day.
Reply:practice for a yr and play next yr. you will look like a fool if you never bladed before. unless u r an experienced ice skater.
