Ok, heres my problem, our nieces bday is coming up here soon. But her mom, has sent out invites saying this... NO PRESENTS UNDER $50.00 WILL BE ACCEPTED!! Now this is a 8 yr old little girl whose poiled rooten, gets ANY %26amp; EVERYTHING she wants, %26amp; can do whatever she wants. No one tells her no, %26amp; NO ONE punishes this little girl at all. She bad mouths everyone, including her parents.





I refuse to go, %26amp; even more my soon to be 11 yr son is NOT allowed near her at all. But now I have grandma %26amp; grandpa on my butt telling me I'm not being fair to their granddaughter, %26amp; her parents wishes.





I refuse to even think about gettign that little brat anything for her bday, because she dosnt deserve even a card. Plus, my son thinks that if his cousin can act %26amp; talk like that its ok.





Also I heard last year on her bday, she got a IPOD, MP3 player, sterio, bike, roller blades, a trip to see MT. Rushmore. And then to top it off, she got to go to Disney World!! And this was all from grandparents!

LOL. I would send the girl's mother a $50 note of Monopoly money and instruct her to buy herself a clue with it.





As for the grandparents, stand your ground: Your kid is not going, and you won't enable the further destruction of that little girl's character by capitulating to the wishes of her grasping, greedy mother.

I believe that you are doing the rights thing, especially for your son he doesn't need that kind of stuff in his life, and y ou don't either. that girl needs a good booty spanking from someone before she gets out of hand. So do what you believe is the right thing to do, and that $50 thing is so not right. It's the thought that counts not how much it cost. Her parents also need a booty spanking as well.

Reply:If everyone else in the family wants to feed into that kind of rampant consumerism then you have no control over it. You only have control over you and your son.





What kind of statement do you want to make? Send a polite note that you'll be unable to attend. Or a polite note that you choose not to afford to attend. Or go and bring a statement $50 gift...a certificate of donation in the birthday girl's name to Heifer International or some other charity.





What goes around does come around and these parents are going to be paying for increasingly expensive presents to buy this child's affections. But that doesn't mean that you have to buy into the farce if you choose not to.
